Lockout/Tagout

Our Process

From on-site survey to full facility procedure development deployment, Steptron delivers machine-specific, visually engineered Lockout/Tagout procedures designed for real-world execution. With over 30 years of expertise, our controlled access methodology and on-equipment placards provide clear, standardized guidance to safely isolate and restore energy—supporting compliance with OSHA 1910.147 Lockout Tagout Standard while reducing risk.

Machine-Specific Procedure Development

Steptron develops machine-specific Lockout/Tagout procedures by thoroughly documenting each piece of equipment throughout your facility. Our surveyors capture critical asset information, identify all hazardous energy isolation points, and create detailed visual references that form the foundation of clear, equipment-specific procedures designed to support safer maintenance practices and OSHA 1910.147 compliance.

  • Maximizes operational productivity by isolating only the required energy sources through Controlled Access methodology
  • Enhances employee understanding, consistency, and accountability with visually engineered placards and tags installed directly on equipment
  • Minimizes the risk of serious injuries, OSHA citations, and operational disruptions
  • Streamlines employee training and onboarding with clear, machine-specific procedures
  • Reduces downtime during maintenance and servicing activities
  • Reinforces OSHA 1910.147 compliance and improves audit readiness
  • Standardizes hazardous energy control procedures across facilities and departments
  • Eliminates reliance on paper binders and generic instructions with point-of-use guidance
  • Strengthens long-term program sustainability while helping safeguard employees, equipment, and corporate assets

STEP one
Initial Facility Survey

Steptron surveyors document each asset by capturing equipment details, location, unique ID, energy isolation points, and visual representations. Every machine is evaluated to identify both primary and secondary energy sources

The Steptron Initial Facility Survey helps EHS and safety professionals establish a clear, accurate foundation for a compliant and efficient Lockout/Tagout program. During this 1–2 day on-site assessment, our experienced surveyors document equipment, identify hazardous energy isolation points, and evaluate Lockout/Tagout requirements in accordance with OSHA 1910.147.

A sample machine-specific placard and tag set is also developed to demonstrate how visual procedures will be implemented throughout the facility, followed by a detailed deployment proposal and project timeline.

Key Benefits

  • Creates a stronger foundation for long-term program sustainability and audit readinessilities to better plan budgets, timelines, and compliance initiatives before implementation begins.
  • Identifies hazardous energy control gaps before implementation
  • Improves project planning, budgeting, and timeline accuracy
  • Reduces unexpected scope changes and unforeseen costs
  • Supports OSHA 1910.147 compliance initiatives
  • Provides a clear roadmap for facility-wide deployment
  • Demonstrates how machine-specific placards and tags will function in your environment
  • Helps standardize Lockout/Tagout procedures across equipment and departments

STEP Two
Procedure Development

Once your initial survey is complete, Steptron executes a full facility Lockout/Tagout deployment—documenting every asset, identifying all hazardous energy sources, and delivering machine-specific, OSHA 1910.147-compliant procedures installed at the point of use.

1. Hazardous Energy Analysis

  • Identify primary and secondary energy sources
  • Define what each lockout device does and does not isolate
  • Document verification methods for zero-energy state
  • Identify cross-fed and stored energy risks.

2. Visual Procedure Development

  • Translate field data into graphically engineered procedures
  • Create clear, machine-specific placards and tags

3. Onsite Validation

  • Review and verify procedures with your team
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and real-world usability

4. Production & Installation

  • Manufacture durable, high-visibility placards and tags
  • Install at the point of use for immediate access

5. Training & Implementation

  • Train employees on proper execution
  • Ensure consistent, compliant application across the facility

STEP THREE
Annual Audits & Corrective Action

Steptron ensures long-term LOTO compliance through annual audits, corrective action, and cloud-based documentation. Equipment is reviewed to identify compliance gaps, missing placards, and new assets, while updated technical drawings and machine-specific files remain accessible through secure cloud storage.
