steptron Service

Procedure Development

Steptron pioneered visually engineered Lockout/Tagout placards, delivering procedures designed to support safe servicing and clear hazardous energy control. Steptron’s unique Controlled Access methodology isolates only the required energy sources for specific servicing tasks—helping facilities maintain productivity, reduce unnecessary downtime, and support OSHA 1910.147 compliance.
Our structured 3-step procedure development process documents each machine, identifies all hazardous energy isolation points, and installs clear, point-of-use visual procedures that help employees execute Lockout/Tagout correctly, efficiently, and with confidence.

Overview

Steptron’s three-step procedure development process includes an initial facility survey, machine-specific procedure development, and ongoing annual audits with corrective action support. This structured approach helps facilities improve hazardous energy control, maintain OSHA 1910.147 compliance, and support long-term Lockout/Tagout program sustainability.

step ONE
Initial Survey

This is a 1-to-2-day survey of your facility and includes:

  1. Sending one of our experienced Surveyors to your facility to identify and electronically document all process/facility machinery and equipment for Lockout/Tagout requirements per OSHA 1910.147.
  2. Survey and provide (1) Final placard and tags for one piece of equipment in your facility to illustrate how the program will apply in your facility.
  3. Submit a firm bid proposal and timeline to deploy the facility Lockout Tagout program.

We have learned the importance of conducting an Initial Survey as the first step, so there are no surprises to our clients and no need to seek additional unforeseen funding.

Onsite Equipment Survey

  • Experienced Steptron surveyor visits your facility
  • Identifies and documents all equipment and locations requiring Lockout/Tagout
  • Capture data electronically and align to OSHA 1910.147

Sample Machine Procedure

  • Survey one piece of equipment (up to ten lockout points) and provide Final placards and tags
  • Visualize LOTO requirements (placard and tags) and “Controlled Access” for one piece of equipment
  • Drives internal alignment and clarity

Program Deployment Proposal

  • Firm pricing and rollout timeline
  • Scope for full facility implementation
  • Clear next steps and budget visibility

step two
Procedure Development

Steptron creates machine-specific Lockout/Tagout procedures tailored to the actual equipment within your facility. Our experienced surveyors document key machine details, map hazardous energy sources, and develop visually engineered procedures that provide employees with clear, point-of-use guidance to support safer servicing activities, improved consistency, and OSHA 1910.147 compliance.

1. Hazardous Energy Analysis

> Identify primary and secondary energy sources
> Define what each lockout device does and does not isolate
> Document verification methods for zero-energy state
> Identify cross-fed and stored energy risks.

2. Visual Procedure Development

> Translate field data into graphically engineered procedures
> Create clear, machine-specific placards and tags

3. Onsite Validation

> Review and verify procedures with your team
> Ensure accuracy, completeness, and real-world usability

4. Production & Installation

> Manufacture durable, high-visibility placards and tags
> Install at the point of use for immediate access

5. Training & Implementation

> Train employees on proper execution
> Ensure consistent, compliant application across the facility

Visually Engineered Placards & Tags

Steptron sets itself apart with visually engineered, machine-specific Lockout/Tagout placards and tags installed directly at the point of use—helping employees isolate hazardous energy faster, execute procedures with greater accuracy, strengthen OSHA compliance, and reduce risk during maintenance and servicing operations.

  • Made in-house to ensure quality, consistency, and fast turnaround
  • Material options include industrial-grade plastic, stainless steel or aluminum
  • Wide range of color combinations for clear identification and standardization
  • Standard or reverse-engraved options for enhanced durability
  • Multiple sizes available (3″ x 3″ standard)
  • Available with adhesive backing, drilled holes, or foam tape

Attachment Options

Multiple attachment methods are offered to ensure placards remain secure, visible, and durable within your specific operating environment. During the facility survey, our team evaluates equipment surfaces and environmental conditions to recommend the most effective solution.

Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive (PSA)

Industrial-Grade Adhesive Backing

Closed-Cell Foam Adhesive Tape

Foam adhesive for irregular or textured surfaces

Grommeted Mounting with Cable Ties

Grommets with mechanical fasteners (tie wraps)

Chemical- and Heat-Resistant Sealants

Engineered for resistance to aggressive chemicals and high-temperature washdown environments

Two Placard Types

Steptron’s visually engineered Lockout/Tagout placards are designed to support safer, more efficient hazardous energy control through two approaches: Zero Energy and Controlled Access. Zero Energy placards guide employees through fully isolating and verifying all hazardous energy sources before servicing begins, helping achieve a complete zero-energy state for maintenance and repair activities. Controlled Access placards provide task-specific energy isolation guidance that allows only the required energy sources to be isolated while maintaining operational productivity where appropriate. Installed directly at the point of use, Steptron’s machine-specific visual placards improve procedural consistency, reduce downtime, and support OSHA 1910.147 compliance.

Zero Energy

Zero energy placards provide our clients with a visual map as to how to de-energize and re-energize equipment to 100% for performing sanitation or maintenance.

Controlled Access

Procedure Training

A key requirement under OSHA 1910.147 is employee training. As a part of the overall facility Lockout/Tagout Program, Steptron develops Lockout/Tagout training manuals and trains your employees.

STEP 3
Annual Audit

A key requirement
OSHA 1910.147

OSHA 1910.147(c)(6) requires employers to conduct periodic (at least annual) inspections of energy control procedures to ensure they remain accurate, effective, and properly implemented.

As your LOTO partner, Steptron performs cost-effective recertification audits supported by tracking technology that alerts when your facility is due. Our team evaluates equipment, machine-specific procedures, and placards to verify alignment with OSHA requirements and actual field conditions.

You receive clear documentation, audit records, and prioritized corrective actions—helping you maintain compliance, close gaps, and keep your Lockout/Tagout program audit-ready.
