Overview
Steptron’s three-step procedure development process includes an initial facility survey, machine-specific procedure development, and ongoing annual audits with corrective action support. This structured approach helps facilities improve hazardous energy control, maintain OSHA 1910.147 compliance, and support long-term Lockout/Tagout program sustainability.
step ONE
Initial Survey
This is a 1-to-2-day survey of your facility and includes:
- Sending one of our experienced Surveyors to your facility to identify and electronically document all process/facility machinery and equipment for Lockout/Tagout requirements per OSHA 1910.147.
- Survey and provide (1) Final placard and tags for one piece of equipment in your facility to illustrate how the program will apply in your facility.
- Submit a firm bid proposal and timeline to deploy the facility Lockout Tagout program.
We have learned the importance of conducting an Initial Survey as the first step, so there are no surprises to our clients and no need to seek additional unforeseen funding.
Onsite Equipment Survey
- Experienced Steptron surveyor visits your facility
- Identifies and documents all equipment and locations requiring Lockout/Tagout
- Capture data electronically and align to OSHA 1910.147
Sample Machine Procedure
- Survey one piece of equipment (up to ten lockout points) and provide Final placards and tags

Two Placard Types
Steptron’s visually engineered Lockout/Tagout placards are designed to support safer, more efficient hazardous energy control through two approaches: Zero Energy and Controlled Access. Zero Energy placards guide employees through fully isolating and verifying all hazardous energy sources before servicing begins, helping achieve a complete zero-energy state for maintenance and repair activities. Controlled Access placards provide task-specific energy isolation guidance that allows only the required energy sources to be isolated while maintaining operational productivity where appropriate. Installed directly at the point of use, Steptron’s machine-specific visual placards improve procedural consistency, reduce downtime, and support OSHA 1910.147 compliance.
Zero Energy
Zero energy placards provide our clients with a visual map as to how to de-energize and re-energize equipment to 100% for performing sanitation or maintenance.
Controlled Access
With controlled access placards, we are able to isolate specific energy lockout points so the equipment does not need to be completely brought to Zero Energy, thus increasing productivity significantly.
Procedure Training
A key requirement under OSHA 1910.147 is employee training. As a part of the overall facility Lockout/Tagout Program, Steptron develops Lockout/Tagout training manuals and trains your employees.
